GYPSY GIRL

BELINDA HARKNESS follows up her 2006 Star Maker Grand Final berth with her new album Gypsy Girl. Producer ROGER CORBETT does what he does best in giving the album a lively energy that percolates through the twelve tracks. Fishin’ is a quirky little ditty about Belinda’s self confessed passion. One Day At A Time (not to be confused with the classic of the same name) tells of a woman trying to make it through the day. When Men Don’t Cry is sorrowfully fraught with emotion. I Never Got Over You is a lovely track. The title track Gypsy Girl, Freer Than The Wind and Already Gone tell of the freedom of the open road and the lonely soul it can beckon. The Verandah is joyous, light and carefree. Belinda has the ability to write songs either bright and cheerful or dark and sombre, and the vocal ability to move us and soothe us.
